2011 -2012 RYC High School Sailing Season Over-view

Richmond Yacht Club High School Sailing Program is for sailors in grades 8 - 12 wanting to sharpen their sailing skills through the fall, winter, and spring.  Throughout the school year, participants in the program attend regular practices at RYC and several weekend regattas around the Bay Area and in Southern California.  

The Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association (PCISA) , divided into NorCal and SoCal events, is set up to encourage maximum growth and participation among the state's high school sailors.  The regatta schedule consists of six NorCal regattas and 5 all-PCISA regattas.  Although a complete team consists of four sailors from the same school, a student is still eligible for the program even if they are the only sailor from their school.

The RYC High School Program consists of 1 full team, with 2 schools, (Terra Linda, Berkeley) working on becoming full teams along with 4 other schools with partial teams.  Our complete team has a parent coordinator to manage communication and logistics for the regatta attendance.  Dan Brandt as head coach and overall RYC-to-teams coordinator makes sure there is clear communication among all the teams.  Any questions about practice or regattas contact him at - 415-497-1112.

The RYC High School Program will start October 9th, even though we will be attending a couple of events before this.  We will have practice on wed. - fri. from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM (optional) and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (mandatory).  We will attend all the NorCal events and the Rosebowl and Cardinal PCISA events.  

A few of you will be asked to help out with the beginner kids some sunday mornings.  This will do a couple of things. It will look good on college applications, it will make you a better sailor trying to communicate sailing to a beginner and it will enable me to spend more time with our newer High School sailors and keep them up to speed quicker.
