About the Foundation

November 10, 2010

Dear Richmond Yacht Club Member,

It is that time of year when we, the Richmond Yacht Club Foundation, ask for your support of our effort to help the outstanding RYC and Bay Area sailors in their regional, national and international endeavors. Your contributions continue to be an important part of our ability to help deserving competitors.

2010 has been another busy year for the Foundation helping our outstanding Club and area adult, youth, and junior sailors. We awarded nearly 20 grants for 2010. Events have included Youth World Championships, National and International Championships around the country, and the world…ocean racing to Opti champs, Olympic class competition to international skiff racing. During 2010 close to $25,000 has been awarded in grants supporting our competing sailors.

One iconic competition supported by your donations was the California Maritime Academy Sailing Team as the US representative to the Student Yachting World Cup in La Rochelle, France. This is the first time that a west coast team has competed in the event's 30-year history. With a student population of 850, the next smallest school against whom they were competing had 6400 students, and the largest (and defending champs) had 64,000; CMA did well in placing 5th overall! CMA has been active in their support of high school and college sailing on the Bay, and the Richmond program in particular. The Foundation is proud to be a supporter of grant requests such as this one.

Your tax-deductible donation of $25, or more, will help us continue the Foundation's mission of promoting our sport, particularly among younger sailors. If you can help with a larger amount or a donation in another form such as a boat, automobile, saleable equipment, stocks, or real estate it would allow us to do even more next year. If you would like information regarding naming the Foundation in your will or trust, please contact us.

Thank you for your generous support.

Very truly yours,

Nick Barnhill
